Nah, that's too smooth

More accurate if it was that clip of Mr Bean arriving at the top of the escalator.

This is for endurance racing. A bunch of my British and Italian coworkers routinely do 12hr cart races (team of 4-5 people) on weekends.

u/ripp102 7d ago
12hr? That’s a lot, but I get that, carts are fun
17
u/7HR4SH3R 7d ago
With 4 guys it's only 3 runs of an hour racing and 3 hours watching. It's not really that much track time over the 12 hours.
6
u/trying2t-spin 7d ago
if they’re only racing for 3 hours surely it’s 9 hours of watching right
13
u/JDtheProtector 7d ago
They are saying they have 3 runs of (1 hour racing and 3 hours watching), so 3 hours total of racing, 9 hours total of watching.
3
u/trying2t-spin 7d ago
Yeah that makes sense, I think it’s written a little unclear but maybe I’m just stupid

3 runs of 1 hour driving plus 3 watching
3
u/trying2t-spin 7d ago
honestly I feel like that still sounds like a lot of effort, even driving 3 hours in one day is a huge commitment, especially considering the downtime in between
6
u/RappersIsDerriere 7d ago
Well aye but they’re doing this because they enjoy it, it isn’t government mandated gocart racing - We only have to do 3 hours total of that a week

u/jazzmaster_YangGuo 7d ago
so how many times do they refuel? or thats also part of the endurance?
2
u/broonyhmfc 7d ago
iirc Quite a few times and they need to time it right as there is normally only one refueling station so they need to try not go in at the same time as another team or they will be sitting waiting.
1
u/Sometimes_Stutters 7d ago
Refueling is a mandatory time. Basically every team needs to stop for X time per refuel in order to keep things fair

While I do love a smooth transition to gameplay, it's not always clear when you actually have to start doing something.

Amazing to me how he secures the gas pedal first and then sets the other foot.

no seatbelt?
i know that outdoor karts its safer but you also almost never have walls so close
17
u/Badittude64 7d ago
Good thing this video is shot indoors then, fucking send it!
15
u/36_potatoes 7d ago
u/BakedOnions meant it's safer to not use a seat belt when karting outdoor due to risk of flipping when going off track.
Indoors the risk of flipping is much much lower, but instead you have close walls all around the track, making seat belts a better choice because of higher risk of direct impacts.

u/Badittude64 7d ago
Your explanation makes sense and I'd like to retract a small portion of my sarcasm.
Excitement stays though WOOOO

u/BakedOnions 7d ago
yeah not sure why all the downvotes
the one time i took my wife indoor go-karting (electric) the attendant improperly did her seatbelt
even at 60% power she made a novice mistake and hit the wall head on and hit her chest into the wheel
it wasn't a nice feeling
the kart in the video is clearly a fast one, you hit a wall head on youll be superman

u/AakashMasani 7d ago
Hmm yeah its strange actually I've gone indoor karting in the UK a fair few times and never had a seatbelt. Never thought to question why
1
u/MyrKnof 7d ago
You can't have an over the shoulder seat belt in those small seats. The 1 point seat belt will just make you slap your face into the steering wheel with accelerated force. It's better for you to get flung instead of trapped under in case of it rolling over (extremely unlikely), as your head is the highest point.
1
u/36_potatoes 7d ago
The one time I did karting, they had one seat belt per shoulder (not sure how they were fastened so I don't want to say x-point, lol) and also a roll structure, which makes sense considering you're strapped to the thing. I think the classic way would still be better for outdoor karting with grass runoff, because you'd still have the risk of your arms flailing around and getting broken.

u/broonyhmfc 7d ago
With the lower speeds, circuit design, special crash barriers, low center of gravity, safety equipment, etc.
Indoor karting is very safe and it would be hard to cause serious injury even if you were trying to. If you sped straight towards a wall you would probably walk away with at worst a broken wrist / hand.

u/tehyosh 7d ago
how would you do a quick dismount for the purpose of this video with a seatbelt? and how do you know he wasn't wearing a seatbelt just before the video started?

"Oh wow, this cut scene is pretty great! Wait, why is he driving into the wall--oh shit I'm driving" stutter, screeching, car crash noises
1
u/VoodooMonkiez 7d ago
I can’t tell if this is a competition or just friends messing around but if it’s a competition like an endurance race usually they require a minimum time in the pits for reasons like this.

When you accidentally skip a cut scene that actually looked interesting: wait- go back-
