He was definitely brown skinned, he was born in the Middle East. A white baby poppin out of a brown woman definitely would’ve been strange to say the least, and quite racist of God.

2 questions. What part of the world is Israel in? What color of skin do the people in that area typically have?
Don’t worry about answering those questions I will. The Middle East and more of a tanned skin color so not really caucasian/white.

I've always been fond of the concept of a Snow White where her "skin was black as ebony, and hair as white as snow".

Cool, I'm down for one where she's a 7 foot tall amazon woman thick as she is tall.
But changing the source material to whatever random assholes want is just pathetic. And it seems like only one of us understands that.

u/_PM_me_your_MOONs_ Mar 27 '23
Oh wow...a Disney purist.
Even tho Disney ripped the Brothers Grimm.
1
u/Cire_ET Mar 27 '23
and as if Disney hasn't made massive changes to every single source material they use.
I mean, The little mermaid dies in the end of her original story and very few fairy tails have happy endings-23
u/Lightfreeflow Mar 27 '23
yup and they would cry racism if Black Panther changed characters to blue eyed white people, double standards

u/JadeRapbit Mar 27 '23
I never understand why people make this argument since it's such a poor one. You're just being reactionary. Seriously stop and think about it for even a moment just how absurd of a suggestion you just made.
Never at any point in snow white is her race even a factor in the story you could make her any ethnicity you wanted or even a made up one and nothing about the overarching plot would be changed. She'd still be chased by the huntsman, poisoned by the queen, meet the dwarves and be saved by the prince.
Black Panther however is literally centered around T'challa's culture and heritage as well as Killmonger. Most black people of the diaspora can relate to these characters pain. The opening scene to Black Panther is Killmonger's father telling him stories of this magical land known as Wakanda. Killmonger only knowing the streets of Oakland then asks his father a powerful question. "why havent I seen it?" he has never been to or seen this promiseland his father speaks of. Here we then unpack centuries of slavery, trauma, and the colonization of black people. You cannot tell this story with a white man.
So no it's not a double standard.
There are a host of iterations to choose from with regards to snow white and the seven dwarves some I'd argue aren't anywhere near the original tale (Disney) so the fact you only seem to take issue with the single hypothetical version featuring a darker skinned woman and say it's about accuracy and not about their race is bullshit and you and I both know it. Truly stop and ask yourself why it bothers you this much.
It 100% is about race no I'm not saying your racist but you most certainly have a bias.

Agreed

u/RUS_BOT_tokyo Mar 27 '23
Yeah she got a real graceful quality to her, I don't know if she's an actress, but she looks like someone who could play Snow White.

Wtf is wrong with these people? Their entire personality is based on fake grievance and intolerance
22
u/thingsthatgomoo Mar 26 '23
The funny thing about these people is that you know they don't give a shit about Disney princesses. They just need something to be mad about

Literally progressives cry about racial shit every day...gets into the news every day, listen to your local NPR, read NY times, Washington Post, CNN...it's neverending
7
u/Silveon_i Mar 27 '23
racial inequality on a societal level is NOT comparable to people upset that fictional franchises pick someone who isnt white for a fictional or fantastic role
0
u/Maximum-Lack8642 Mar 27 '23
What about CNN clowns that cry about digital blackface (people picking a gif that isn’t their race to represent the abstract idea of an emotion/reaction)?

Probably just be calling it "The Evil Queen" from the evil Queens perspective. Snow white would be Rose or something weird; just a different perspective.

u/DirtyArchaeologist Mar 27 '23
Barry White and Al Green and Jack Black would probably all wonder what the fuck this even means.
Unless the name of the person that made this meme was Whitey Whitly Whitington, it makes no fucking sense!

I want to see the reverse of this. The absolute whitest thing in the universe. We can call her black panther or something to that effect.

Idk I feel like live action remakes are prone to flopping
2
u/DirtyArchaeologist Mar 27 '23
All the more reason to push further away and do something new entirely. Whether people want to admit it or not, Disney's was a remake too. It's a tale as old as time, a song as old as rhyme.

ik you meant it as a joke but the original age of snow white was 14 😭

Yeah dumbasses like to link that sub like its some huge dunk even when it's not relevant. Ironic.
-1
u/TheEyefuckening Mar 27 '23
so are we supposed to make snow white accurate to the story? are right wingers advocating for a teenage actor to be made out with "postmortem" by a 30yr old?

u/nodeymcdev Mar 27 '23
So fucking stupid. Who cares if they retell a story with a character as another race? The movie will either be good or bad based on a number of other factors.

u/Alderan922 Mar 27 '23
Onyx dark, honestly a beautiful woman who could be the protagonist of a good movie (sadly it would get butchered by Hollywood anyways)

Mar 27 '23
NGL that got me curious. Would totally work with the central premise of the story with just right trope subversion.

What a fucking joke. I'm not racist or anything but watching BLM movement and how blacks keep getting aways with their crimes really disgusted me.
2
u/jordanwhoelsebih Mar 27 '23
You have Patrick Bateman as your Avi unironically..
Also everytime black people do crime = blacks get away with it.
White people do crime = ? Silence
-1
u/cOxHuNtEr Mar 27 '23
It's so weird that this fictional character bothers you. In fact, blacks now are equall than others. Black on black crimes are much more than whites but the media rarely talks about it
2
u/CPterp Mar 27 '23
Why does no one talk about white on white crime? Whites commit crime on their own race at far high raters than other races.
Edit: It's because people commit crimes on people they know, dumbass.

u/George_of_the-Jungle Mar 28 '23
I laughed too hard at this.
I just broke up with my super liberal crazy LGBTQ+ girlfriend today and am enjoying the oppertunity to scroll though this entire shit thread and laught at the casual and good hearted racisim. This little gem made me lol quite hard and I thank you for that gift of a good laugh.
There is a healthy kind of comedy racism out there that I encourage more of.
-5
u/Usual-Worry8412 Mar 27 '23
She looks amazing though! White is a generic surname so this joke is weak as fuck, not that these things are even funny 🤦🏻♀️
6
u/Massivelocity Mar 27 '23
I mean... in the original story, Snow White is literally described as having "skin as white as snow." It's not just a name.
-6
u/Usual-Worry8412 Mar 27 '23
🤔 I guess it was a bit weird that she isn't albino.
5
u/Massivelocity Mar 27 '23
You can have stark white skin without being albino. Stop being weird.
-5
u/Usual-Worry8412 Mar 27 '23
I guess so, still seems a matter that just doesn't matter but the we have a lot of men in drag comedy where I'm from, acting is acting.

I decided to do a web search to see if 'Snow White' had an actual name, best I could find was a history.
https://elgiva.com/snow-white-history/
RL version: countess Margaretha von Waldeck was sent to her uncle by her stepmother, was renowned for her beauty, and died by apparent poisoning at 21.
The dwarves? Malnourished children forced to work in mines.

Not sure that's the comparison you're looking for, since Ben Kingsley is of Indian ancestry.
1
u/extremepainandagony Mar 27 '23
tell your uncle that's actually white sand, not snow, that'll make him a lil angry
1
u/Exact-Cress7633 Mar 27 '23
It would be better if disney stopped making live action adaptations of classic animated movies. Look how you butchered Aladdin. It was my favourite movie.
